Folk Art Artists

Folk Art describes a wide range of objects that reflect the craft traditions, and traditional social values, of various social groups. It is a broad term used to describe a range of artistic expression of the people of a country or region as well as the art of some individuals. Folk painters are often concerned with recording the ordinary activities of lifetheir direct and honest depiction of subjects usually reflects social and cultural characteristics. Simple flat figures and decorative design, bright colors, and unrealistic spatial relationships often characterize folk painting.
Folk artists are generally self-taught or have little or no formal art education. For the most part, "Folk Art" would exclude works executed by professional artists and sold as "fine art".
